As a student, we spend almost 10,000 hours of our life and as an adult, we had spent 15 percent of our average life in our schools, these numbers are fascinating on how much schools have made up our time. But this number shifts to the greater side when we are talking about Boarding School, where children spent their whole time within the premises living with their fellow classmates, roommates, and administrator and not forgetting their all loveable teachers.

Best Boarding school in India seems like a modern term. But, it has been around for almost the time humans got civilized. In medieval times parents used to send their children to learn religious texts, every culture had its own customs, Hindus sent their children to ‘gurukuls’ where they would learn all the skills needed to survive. In European culture, children were sent to either monasteries or in affluent households where they were taught by literate clergymen. Hence, Europe has some of the oldest boarding schools still working and the tradition kept flowing around the world.

The dispute of Boarding schools being good or bad is still fresh. Every ideology has its own pro and cons. Not every experience is going to turn into something magical like Harry Potter and his Boarding School Hogwarts. Let us unravel the knots of advantages and disadvantages of Boarding School;

Advantages of Boarding School:

· Independent Academics:

Most of the schools have a set curriculum provided by the higher authorities or regulated by the Government. But Boarding schools have their own unique and challenging academics.

They have a preset environment for better studies, competition, and self-discipline.

· Growth and Learning

Children in boarding schools are groomed into independent individuals. They are mould into a vase of waking up early, grooming themselves etc.

They live, learn, play and grow with their peers who become their friends for life. In boarding schools, right from the smaller age, you are taught to live in a community and learn with them as sharing the knowledge.

· One one Interaction:

As the number of students sitting in a class is comparably lower than the public or private schools, teachers can interact with students and monitor them more closely.

They have known these students for half of their lives. They can guide them correctly and push them in right directions. *Teachers might be available 24*7 for students.

Disadvantages of Boarding Schools:

· High Pricing

The costs of Boarding schools are so high and it is ever rising, for the middle class and poor families it is unaffordable.

High pricing snatches the opportunity from such families.

· Peer Pressure

As their family is spending a hefty amount, every student is under pressure for keeping the grades up, maintaining decorum and discipline, never losing their face.

A never-ending competition.

· Home Sickness

Children grow up on their own, they learn all things whether about the social construct, physical and mental issues and they find no one as close as parents to share their problems.

They miss out on the time that should be spent with their families. In such situations, they become easily isolated and sometimes depressed as many students cannot handle such situations.
